• How can I make an appointment or buy a gift certificate ?

You can schedule your visit by booking online or by calling the office at : (505) 366-1492, from 10am--7 pm, Wednesdays--Sundays. If we miss your call during open hours then we are helping another client and will return your call as soon as possible. We have done our best to make it easy to book a session or buy a gift certificate through the "Book Now" page. Credit cards cannot be taken over the phone, so gift certificates purchased remotely must be processed through the website. Please note that we are not open on Mondays and Tuesdays for services or calls, but you may still schedule or purchase gift certificates through this website seven days a week.

  • When is body work not right for me?

If you have a cold, flu, or other contagious illness, please call the office to reschedule. Body work during illness can increase your symptoms and sometimes make you feel worse. We recommend waiting until three full days after your symptoms have passed before your treatment. If you are taking antibiotics or fighting any inflammation or infection, it is also best for you to wait three full days past recovery or end of the antibiotic course. Certain chronic conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or multiple sclerosis may require a modified treatment during massage. Please let us know of any medical conditions or concerns when you schedule your appointment.

  • What can I Expect in a Body Work session?

We here at Rio Grande Body Works love newbies! We do our best to make your first session a comfortable, safe, and satisfying experience. All sessions begin with an intake. We ask you to arrive 10-15 minutes before your appointment to fill out a brief questionnaire. Your therapist will then lead you to the treatment room where you can have a private conversation about your treatment. You are encouraged to help us shape your service, so please be confident and honest about sharing your concerns and making your requests clear. We wish that we could read your mind, but since we can't, we rely upon you to help make every session the best! If you need to undress then your therapist will leave the room to give you privacy. Body workers have been trained to let the client lead when it comes to chatting. If you want to quietly absorb the work, then they will stay quiet as well. If you want to talk, you are welcome to do so. Please don't feel that your therapist is unfriendly if they don't initiate chatting, they are only trying to let you relax. We encourage you to give feedback about pressure and technique during the massage as every client has their own preferences. "Deep tissue" work can mean that we are working on underlying/deeper muscle layers, or it can mean that we are applying a lot of pressure. It is up to you how much pressure is applied to which areas, but the therapist will also be "reading" your body's response to help guide them with this too. After your treatment, your provider leaves the room again for you to dress. When you have dressed there will be a brief follow-up chat. Your therapist may offer advice for self-care to help extend the benefits of your treatment, and make notes about your preferences for next time. With each return visit, you and your therapist continue shaping your treatments to be increasingly progressive and satisfying.

  • I'm pregnant. Can I get a massage?

Yes! Massage is very beneficial for expectant mothers, but there are some limitations. We recommend speaking with your care provider to get their approval if you are experiencing any complications--however minor. We also want you to wait until you have entered your second trimester. Only certain members of our staff work with pregnant women, so please tell us that you are pregnant as you schedule your treatment.

  • What are CBD products? Can they get you high or make you feel funny?

CBD products will not induce a high as they do not contain the active ingredients in recreational marijuana. These products are fully tested for safety and effectiveness, and comply with all local, state and federal laws. CBD is the newest trend in skin care, for good reason! It’s been shown to regulate cell growth, reduce inflammation, and stimulate important fats in the skin and sebaceous glands. These treatments are very helpful for dry skin, and such issues as psoriasis and eczema.CBD treatments are not available for clients under 18, or for those with certain skincare or health concerns. Your esthetician will help you determine if CBD facials are right for you.

  • What if I will be late to my appointment, or if I can't make it at all?

Please call us as soon as you know that you need to reschedule. A 24 hour advance cancellation is required or you may be charged a rescheduling fee. You will never be charged a late-cancellation fee if you miss your appointment due to illness or emergency, but please let us know as soon as possible if this is the case. If you are more than 15 minutes late we may not have enough time to complete your service. This will be considered a no-show and you will be billed accordingly. Please call if you know you will be late as you may still be able to receive a partial session or allow us to serve a waiting client.

  • Do you offer children’s massage?

Yes, we believe that massage can be a valuable experience for children, especially if they carry heavy backpacks or band instruments or are involved in sports. We do have some special considerations for children’s’ massage:

  1. An adult guardian or family member (preferably of the same gender) must be present in the room during the full term of a child’s session (for those under the age of 16.)
  2. Children must be toilet trained.
  3. Children will keep their undergarments on; we will use full-sheet draping.
  4. Breaks can be taken as needed (session time will not be extended.)
  5. Children have the right to say “no” if they are uncomfortable. All children must be willing and informed participants in the massage
  6. 30-minute sessions are recommended for children.
  7. Please do not bring any children who are not scheduled for treatment.
  8. Not all therapists work with children, so please inform us of their age when you make their appointment.

  • Can I bring additional children or pets?

We ask that you find someone to watch your children and pets while you visit us. Their presence is often disruptive to you and other guests and staff cannot take responsibility for their safety. This is a time for you to relax and treat yourself.  Some clients have allergies to pets and our staff cannot be responsible for cleaning up after them.

  • What can I Expect in a Lomi Lomi Session?

While you begin your treatment with an intake and discussion just as you would for a Swedish massage, Lomi Lomi is different in a few ways. The draping is traditionally very minimal, with all but the groin area uncovered. We are happy to increase the coverage if you prefer more modesty. Also, there is a greater amount of oil used, and you may want to save time to shower before any important engagements. We provide hot towels after your session, but we do not have shower facilities. We use organic coconut oil, which is incredible rich, and leaves your skin buttery-soft. Using the forearms more than the hands means that the pressure is not as specific, or intense, but elbow and hand work can add deeper or more specific work. This is a very relaxing style, so you may want to plan a mellow evening after your session to enjoy the after-effects. As with Swedish massage, we recommend that you increase your water intake and refrain from exertion to allow your body to absorb the treatment.

  • What can I expect in a facial?

Your visit will begin with a thorough intake. You'll fill out a questionnaire and have a chat with the esthetician to discuss your skin's needs and your goals. They will customize the facial to be sure and meet your needs. Sometimes they may need to offer you a different service from what you had in mind, depending upon sensitivities, your current product regimen, etc. Not all treatments (such as peels) are suitable for all skin types and concerns. Trust in our esthi to guide you and you'll walk away glowing!

  • What can I Expect in a Craniosacral session?

This treatment style is very gentle and relaxing. You lay upon a treatment table, but remain fully clothed, and can have a blanket if you like. We recommend that you wear loose, comfortable clothing. Your therapist uses light pressure, rocking, and other gentle movements. Some clients become very relaxed and can even doze off. Others may become energized, or feel encouraged to release energy through talk. At Rio Grande Body Works we want you to feel comfortable experiencing your treatment in whatever manner feels right to you. This style can be combined with a Swedish massage session. You will follow the same intake procedure as with Swedish massage, and the post-treatment recommendations of increased water intake and rest apply too.

  • My therapist did a great job--how can I thank them?

If you loved your treatment then please let us know so we can give our staff the kudos they deserve. Tipping is never required, but it is appreciated. Any amount from $5 to $40 is common, and depends upon how well you feel your provider met your needs. Online reviews are the most important way to help your favorite therapist meet new clients, and spending a few minutes of your time to thank us in this manner really means a lot to us! In fact, if you have your treatment with the owner, Hanan, she prefers an online review in place of a monetary tip.

  • What if I’m uncomfortable with my therapist?

Getting to know a therapist not only relaxes you, it helps build a relationship that leads to better outcomes. If it’s your first time visiting us, your therapist will spend extra time talking to you before your session starts. Therapeutic massage is non-sexual. Any remarks and/or advances of a sexual nature will not be tolerated, either from a client or a therapist. This protection extends to both female and male therapists and clients. Any behavior that is sexual in nature will result in immediate termination of the session. If the behavior is from the client, we do not refund the service and the police may be called. If you ever have concerns about your therapist, please ask to immediately speak to management so that appropriate action may be taken.
